Children at Play

This summer, as in past summers, Wi’am will be hosting children from Monday-Friday in an interactive summer camp in which we strive to combine educational activities with fun, relaxing activities for children to unwind and let off stress. Right now we are hosting local children every Friday in a preview of the summer camp before it officially starts on July 2. The children love to come play at Wi’am and enjoy our small area of green space, despite the location being next to the Apartheid Wall.

The children started out playing in the playground and doing arts and crafts under the shade. However, because of the intense heat, many soon moved to indoor activities. Some played educational games in our small computer lab while others did arts and crafts inside.

Around 11:00, some of the children met with our two American summer interns, Tim Leisman and Jessica Saba, for an impromptu English lesson. They divided up into two groups, one of younger children with less English skills and one with the children who had progressed further in their studies. After around 30 minutes of language games, the air conditioning had revitalized the children, who ran back out to the playground.

Please enjoy some pictures from the day!
